How I Will Keep My Family From Driving Me Insane With Funny Christmas T-Shirts

The Christmas season is as close to the pain and torture of the Inquisition that you can get in this modern era. You may thing that I\’m being overly dramatic, but when you are someone with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder who hosts Christmas for almost two dozen relatives, then things can get out of control. For a person with OCD, out of control is almost physically painful. I get headaches, stomach cramps, nausea, and worse from it. I was told in therapy that I should have something that I can control completely to ease the stress. That something for me this year will be funny Christmas t-shirts.

It all starts on Christmas Eve sometime around noon, which is when the horde arrives to mess up the house, use up the toilet paper, and leave all the lights on. I almost had a panic attack just typing that. I\’m going to wear the very first of my funny Christmas t-shirts that night. We usually drink eggnog and have a good time on Christmas Eve while the kids play games in the bonus room. I\’m going to wear a shirt that features Santa peeing in the snow with text that reads, \”Seriously…no more eggnog for Santa.\” That\’ll surely lighten my mood.

On Christmas Day, I actually have plans to wear three different funny Christmas t-shirts all through the day as the situation calls for it. My family is going to get such a kick out of me changing shirts according to what we\’re doing! It\’s nothing to just run up stairs and put on a different shirt. I could even just wear all of the shirts at once, and peel them off at dramatic moments during the day to make a statement. The first shirt will be for early in the morning and will have a cat on it that says, \”Dear Santa, I Want It All!\” I know my mom is going to love that one.

The next shirt will be right around noon when all of the major cooking starts up. That\’s the point when the day gets the most hectic. The kids are busy playing with their toys, the wife and I are trying to feed a small army of people who\’s opinion really matters to us, and all of them keep wanting to poke their head in to \”help\”. I appreciate their concern every year, but our kitchen is small and we have everything planned perfectly. Just get out! The funny Christmas t-shirts that come next are great. The second one will have a cat in a Santa hat dangling from a tree with a sign around his neck that says, \”Hang in there!\”

The last of my funny Christmas t-shirts will be worn after dinner and after everything\’s cleaned up. This is when the recovery period sets in and I have a couple glasses of wine. This is when I really enjoy my family and stop stressing out about how perfect the day needs to be. I\’ll put on the last shirt that features a whole family of snowmen holding hands. It will say, \”There\’s nothing quite like a Christmas family.\” I think they\’ll all get the picture.
