Back in the days when we just got married, this beloved husband of mine proposed we learn how to kayak. Excited and adventurous as I was, both my husband and I joined a training\’s class for those who wanted to learn kayaking. I am fond of being in the water, I like swimming and scuba diving. I had a change of heart though, when we finished the second day of orientation.I could not roll the boat when I flipped over and it sort of freaked me out at the idea of being under water upside down and not being able to right the boat. We agreed that when he goes on kayaking, all I have to do is drop him off and fetch him after a few hours at the end of the river.This was perfectly fine with me. To pass the time, what I\’d do is I would sit in our car and marvel at the wonderful view of nature, at times I would savor the fresh air as I read my book and at other times, I go walking along the pathways and do some discovering of my own – plants and creatures in the wild. It worked for us both ways, so our car was full of anything we needed, lunch, clothing and gears.He was a photographer, too, so we also had camera equipment, chargers, batteries and all the gear possible!
A buddy of his was also convinced by my husband to try kayaking as well. This friend of ours as far as I know didn\’t like going out much.But he wanted to try it and learn something new.He trained and got pretty good at rolling and maneuvering the kayak. It turned the other way around though when he went kayaking in the real world for the first time. What happened was he got stuck while the kayak was upside down. He got tangled in some branches and could not flip the boat back up.
His life was in danger when his boat did not turned back up immediately. My husband had been watching him and noticed what had happened so he went underwater without delay and rescued him. He had a second chance in life and was very grateful of what my husband did. That experience traumatized him that he didn\’t want anything to do with the kayak anymore, he immediately disposed his kayak the next day. Back then, we had lots of fun outdoors, and as proof, we took pictures of the places we\’ve gone to.
Through the years, our being an adventure-seeker has tamed and with technology, so much have changed. Even though we stopped going out on kayaking trips, we still go on hiking and taking pictures as well. Years before, it became kind of a habit, however burdensome it may be, to bring all our photo equipments complete with all its accessories when we go out on a hike. Cellular phones, Blackberries, they\’re the fad or even a necessity nowadays. Extra batteries, we don\’t need that anymore because of what we\’ve discovered. It\’s amazing!
