They only have to complete a total of 60 semester hours of prerequisite courses that include general electives and science courses. Concordia University\’s degree is called Second Degree Accelerated BSN Program, which can be completed in three semesters. It includes 90 hours of clinical work in a public health facility to make them ready for their California Public Health Certificate application and clinical work in medical-surgical nursing, maternal-child nursing, pediatric nursing and psychiatric nursing.
Similarly, BOCES in Albany, New York also offers high school students free access to college medical school programs at Schenectady County Community College. It offers a free one year Nurse Assistant program, preparing high school juniors and seniors (grades 11 and 12) for the New York State Certified Nurse Assistant examination. Students must be in good standing and meet academic standards, which require that students attain a minimum competency level of 8th grade reading and 8th grade math.
